HOW CAN YOU DETECT LEAD?

Before works, an expert:

  • identifies any paintwork, coatings or varnish that may contain lead

  • analyses materials with an X-ray fluorescence detector with a radioactive source,

  •  or removes a flake of paint and sends it for laboratory analysis.

For small scale work, it may be assumed, as a precaution and for simplicity's sake, that the paint contains lead. In which case the necessary precautions should be taken during work.
